Australia Day Jan 26 2007

Australia Day - we have a holiday and celebrate what it means to be Australian on January 26th. I'm hosting a small party with my sister Jude and encourage people to wear Australian stuff and compose a small poem... something possibly similar to the following:

Australia is big, The people are small
I'm having a party. You'll have a ball

We don't normally right poems, we don't really sing songs
We're famous for cricket and barbees and thongs (flipflops)
Our talent is friendship, our badge is our mates
We wish we had rain in all of our states

If a neighbour's in trouble we'll lend him a hand
When the bushfires come then so does the man
With the big firey hat to takes care of our woes
By sending the men with the watery hose

God is quite pleased with our ugg boots and doonas
His Spirit is seen in our scary faunas
His Son is most thanked by the ordinary folk
Who know light is his burden and easy his yolk

The time has now come to have a look how we're girt*
Come to my place, let's check out the dirt!!! ( and water and beaches and stuff )

* Girt, from our national anthemn. To encircle or bind. "Our land is girt by sea."
